The Jubilee of the Sick, and of Health Care Workers is celebrated today in the Diocese of Nottingham An intercession for use at all Masses will be prayed across the diocese, and parishes are encouraged to celebrate a Service of the Sacrament of the Sick
11th February, the optional memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes, is the World Day for the Sick. Throughout our diocese we celebrate those who are sick, and those who care for them, on the previous Sunday. The following intercession should be used at Masses on the Fifth Sunday of the Year, 8th and 9th February, and can be used in parishes and schools at other opportune times during the Jubilee.
An optional blessing of Health Care Workers is given, which can be used as appropriate, after the intercessions. It is fitting that the congregation then pray together the Jubilee Prayer.
Parishes and deaneries are encouraged to arrange a communal Celebration of the Sacrament of Sick on this day or at another convenient time, using the ritual in the prescribed books.
Intercession
In this Jubilee of Hope we pray especially for all those who are sick, or in hospital, and for those who care for them so tenderly. May times of sickness and suffering always inspire a sense of hope in God, and his love for each one of us.
Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer.
Blessing of Health Care Workers
Lord our God,
you sent your Son into the world
to bear our infirmities and to endure our sufferings.
We pray now for all those who care for the sick and the suffering,
the aged and the infirm.
We ask that your blessing will give them strength
to always show the compassion of Christ in each encounter they have,
bringing your healing, comfort, and love to the people in their care.
May you bless all those of our brothers and sisters gathered here,
the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
