Nottingham Diocese is anticipating an exciting Lent, as it prepares to welcome the highly esteemed Catholic podcasters, Mike and Alicia Hernon, who will be leading a parenting retreat in March, this year.

Mike and Alicia, founders of the Messy Family Ministry, are coming all the way from Stuebenville, Ohio to offer parents their unique insight into how to parent intentionally and to raise, fulfilled and faith-filled children.

The event will take place on Sunday March 16, Our Lady of Lincoln, Lincoln and will begin with Mass at 10am.

The podcasters, who have a following of over 50,000 listeners, will focus on the theme of the ‘Four Disciplines of a Family’ and a creche will be provided for couples who need childcare, on a pre booking basis only.

Attendees, including children, will need a packed lunch. Tea, Coffee and refreshments will be on offer.

Reflecting on the event, Joe Hopkins, Director of Adult Formation for Mission, said this was a significant moment for families across the Diocese of Nottingham.

“As we celebrate this Jubilee Year of Hope, there is no better way to serve families, than to offer them this unique opportunity for growth.

“The Messy Family Ministry is a huge support to families across the globe, who yearn to be proactive in their parenting, rather than simply reactive. In a digital age, when the pace of life is so fast and the demands on our time overwhelming, it can be hard to know where to begin with the beautiful yet daunting task, of building a flourishing family culture.

“Mike and Alicia, are here to support all couples across the diocese, in their vocation as spouses and parents and to embrace the adventure of family life with faith, love and hope. They offer general principles to consider, based on our shared faith- not a handbook or instructions- so that each family can work out their own unique path, in the raising of their children.

“This is a unique opportunity for our diocese, and we really hope engaged and married couples will join us in Lincoln, on Sunday March 16.”

Mike and Alicia Hernon have ten children and several  grandchildren too and live in Steubenville, Ohio. They do not claim to be parenting ‘experts’ but simply offer their insights and experience.
