Job title: Parish Youth Formation Lead

Purpose of role: To provide a continuous programme of engagement for young people at each stage of their faith development from 9 to 16. This will form the children through catechesis, facilitating their participation in Mass and in the sacraments, and helping them deepen their prayer lives.

Hours of work: 6 hours per week

Salary: TBD

Line Manager: Parish Priest (or equivalent)

Main Responsibilities

Parish opportunities for young people

The Youth Formation Lead will build, coordinate, and resource a team of volunteers to provide a variety of opportunities for those aged 9 to 16 in the parish. These opportunities will be aimed at deepening and strengthening the relationship of each young person with Jesus Christ, fostering genuine friendships among their catholic peers, and enhancing their knowledge and lived experience of their Catholic faith.

• To develop a vision for the youth of the parish

• To coordinate a weekly evening Youth Group session in the parish

• Every other year, to coordinate the Confirmation course

• Provision for regular outreach/charitable opportunities, linking to parish initiatives

• Provision for regular prayer opportunities tailored to each age group

• Provision for trips/days out for formation and fun

• Provision of social events for the altar servers and children in the choir

Building a Team

The Youth Formation Lead will work with interested volunteer adults to form a youth ministry team in the parish capable of building and maintaining a continuous programme of engagement from Year Five through to Year Eleven.

Finance and budgeting

Budgeting will be agreed between the Youth Formation Lead and the Parish Priest as the programme takes shape.

Personal Qualities and Experience

Essential Criteria:

• Practising, committed Catholic*

• Ability to communicate the Catholic faith effectively to young people aged 9 to 16

• Experience of working with young people in a Catholic context

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Experience facilitating young people in leading worship

• Ability to build and lead a team

• Strong understanding of safeguarding and health & safety

• An enhanced DBS Check is an essential requirement for this role

*There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement for this role to be held by a practising Catholic
